Language FamilyDartminic

Proto-Dartminic was the language of the people who migrated out of the Proto-Skomi Urheimat roughly 5000 years before present and spoken up until 3000 years before present. Its consonant inventory differs greatly from Proto-Skomi, with the voiced plosives softening to fricatives or taps, the creation of a set of voiceless nasals and a new aspirated alveolar sibilant /sʰ/. However, it still retains the 6-vowel system from Proto-Skomi, albeit with slightly vowel qualities.

Proto-Dartminic has generally fluid word-order, with SOV, SVO and VSO being the most commonly used word orders. Like Proto-Skomi, Proto-Dartminic has 6 cases and 3 tenses, but it has merged the paucal and plural grammatical numbers and the evidentiality system in Proto-Skomi became 2 grammatical moods: Indicative and Potential moods. Proto-Dartminic also developed a distinction between infinitive and perfective aspects.
